Inspired from my exhibition in SantaFe - when I saw this beautiful stone-work.
This is now included in the NewMexico Flag. Yellow field and red symbol colors are the colors og Spain brought by Spanish explorers in 1540
There are 4 groups of rays with four rays in each group. It is an ancient sun symbol of the Native American people called the Zia. The Zia believed that the giver og all good gave gifts in groups of 4. The gifts are:
The 4 directions:
North, East, South ans West
The 4 phases of Life:
Childhood Youth Middle years and old age
The 4 parts of day:
Sunrise, Noon, Evening and Night
The 4 seasons:
Spring, summer, Autumn and Winter
All of the gifts are bound together by a circle of life and love, which has no beginning and no end
