When I painted “The Sun Goddess Gift,” I sought to weave the essence of Japan into every stroke. The delicate Japanese paper serves as the foundation, infusing the piece with a soul that whispers of tradition and reverence. At the heart of the painting, the green Japanese pheasant, the sacred messenger of the Sun Goddess, takes flight. Its wings carry the weight of an ancient tale, soaring through the imperial chrysanthemum—a symbol of eternal life, a guardian of secrets, and a cherished gift. This time, the chrysanthemum becomes an offering, a tribute to the Sun Goddess herself, beseeching her to fill our eternal lives with the warmth and radiance of her light. The Japanese paper, integral to the work, becomes more than a background—it is a bridge between the tangible and the ethereal. Through its texture and presence, I wove a tapestry of symbolism and grace, honoring both the traditions that inspire me and the vision that guides my hand. @SaatchiArt
