On March 8th, as we commemorate International Women's Day, it is crucial to focus on the pressing issues that continue to plague women's rights globally. Today, I turn to my painting, "He Who Lives on Illusions - Dies of Disappointment," to shine a light on the harsh reality faced by countless women worldwide. Many continue to live in oppression, and sexual exploitation remains rampant. It is imperative that we stop excusing these conditions — they demand decisive action and accountability.

While the stories of women suffering under indignity resonate globally, my thoughts particularly linger on the women of Iran. They face additional layers of hardship and have shown extraordinary resilience in their struggle for freedom. For years, Iranian women have been at the forefront, demanding the basic human rights that many around the world take for granted. They seek the autonomy to flourish, access education, pursue careers, and express themselves without fear, restrictions, or societal impositions.

The courage that Iranian women display is nothing short of inspiring yet heart-wrenching when one considers the sacrifices made in pursuit of such fundamental freedoms. My heart goes out to those we have lost along the way — may their sacrifices not be in vain. It is our duty to amplify their voices, support their cause, and advocate for a world where women can live unshackled, thriving in environments that respect their rights and dignity.

As we observe this day dedicated to highlighting women’s rights, let us renew our commitment to ensure that these struggles are met with solidarity and action. Women's rights are human rights, and the fight for equality and justice must continue unabated until every woman can live freely, express herself, and love whom she chooses, without fear of oppression or exploitation.
